Helpu Plant i Gymryd eu Camau Nesaf tuag at Annibyniaeth: Rheoli Gwrthdyniadau
Ar ôl edrych ar sut mae plant yn dyfalbarhau yn y bwletin diwethaf, rydym nawr yn troi at Reoli Gwrthdyniadau, y llinyn sy'n cefnogi plant i ganolbwyntio'n ddigon hir i ymdrech talu ffordd.
Mae rheoli gwrthdyniadau yn ymwneud â helpu plant i ddeall sut mae eu hamgylchedd a'u meddyliau eu hunain yn dylanwadu ar eu gallu i ganolbwyntio. Mae'n llinyn o annibyniaeth sy'n annog plant i sylwi ar yr hyn sy'n dal eu sylw ac i wneud dewisiadau meddylgar sy'n cefnogi dysgu tawel, cyson. Mae staff yn cyflwyno'r syniad hwn trwy helpu plant i gydnabod nad yw sylw yn rhywbeth sy'n digwydd iddynt yn syml. Mae'n rhywbeth y gallant ei arwain gyda phenderfyniadau bach, ymarferol sy'n gwneud meddwl yn haws.
Mae plant yn dechrau datblygu'r sgil hon pan fyddant yn dysgu oedi a gwirio gyda nhw eu hunain. Maent yn dechrau adnabod y foment y mae eu meddwl yn crwydro ac i ddeall pam y digwyddodd. Mae rhai plant yn cael eu tynnu sylw gan symudiad, eraill gan sŵn, ac eraill gan eu syniadau neu bryderon eu hunain. Wrth iddynt dyfu, maent yn dysgu paratoi eu hunain cyn dechrau tasg trwy ddewis lle addas i eistedd, casglu'r hyn sydd ei angen arnynt, a chael gwared ar unrhyw beth a allai amharu ar eu meddwl. Mae staff yn cefnogi hyn drwy fodelu ffocws tawel a thrwy dynnu sylw’n ysgafn at y dewisiadau sy’n helpu plant i aros yn ymgysylltu.
Gartref, gall teuluoedd helpu plant i feithrin yr ymwybyddiaeth hon drwy greu arferion bach sy’n gwneud i ganolbwyntio deimlo’n haws. Mae arwyneb taclus, sedd gyfforddus, a dechrau clir yn helpu plant i ymgartrefu’n gyflymach. Mae siarad yn uchel am eich sylw eich hun, er enghraifft “Rwy’n mynd i symud fy ffôn er mwyn i mi allu canolbwyntio,” yn dangos i blant fod oedolion hefyd yn gwneud addasiadau i gefnogi eu meddwl. Pan fydd plentyn yn cael ei dynnu sylw, mae cwestiwn syml fel “Beth fyddai’n eich helpu i fynd yn ôl i hyn?” yn eu hannog i gymryd perchnogaeth o’r cam nesaf yn hytrach na dibynnu ar oedolyn i drwsio’r sefyllfa iddynt.
Mae plant yn elwa o ymarfer cyfnodau byr o amser ffocws ac yna saib byr. Mae hyn yn eu helpu i brofi llwyddiant heb deimlo’n llethol. Dros amser, maent yn dysgu ymestyn y cyfnodau hyn yn naturiol. Pan fydd oedolion yn sylwi ac yn enwi’r dewisiadau y mae plant yn eu gwneud, fel “Troddoch chi eich cadair i ffwrdd o’r sŵn er mwyn i chi allu canolbwyntio,” mae plant yn dechrau deall bod gan y penderfyniadau bach hyn effaith wirioneddol ar eu dysgu. Mae hyn yn meithrin hyder ac yn eu helpu i deimlo’n fwy mewn rheolaeth o’u sylw eu hunain.
Nid yw rheoli gwrthdyniadau yn ymwneud â disgwyl tawelwch na chanolbwyntio perffaith. Mae'n ymwneud â helpu plant i ddeall eu hunain fel dysgwyr a rhoi'r offer iddynt wneud addasiadau meddylgar pan fydd eu hangen arnynt. Mae plant sy'n datblygu'r arfer hwn yn dod yn fwy trefnus, yn fwy myfyriol, ac yn fwy abl i gymryd cyfrifoldeb am sut maen nhw'n mynd ati i'w gwaith. Maen nhw'n dysgu y gellir llunio, cefnogi a chryfhau sylw, yn yr ysgol ac yn y cartref.

Helping Children to Take Their Next Steps to Independence: Managing Distractions
After looking at how children persevere in the last bulletin, we now turn to Managing Distractions, the strand that supports children in staying focused long enough for effort to pay off.
Managing distractions is about helping children understand how their surroundings and their own thoughts influence their ability to focus. It is a strand of independence that encourages children to notice what captures their attention and to make thoughtful choices that support calm, steady learning. Staff introduce this idea by helping children recognise that attention is not something that simply happens to them. It is something they can guide with small, practical decisions that make thinking easier.
Children begin to develop this skill when they learn to pause and check in with themselves. They start to recognise the moment their mind drifts and to understand why it happened. Some children are distracted by movement, others by noise, and others by their own ideas or worries. As they grow, they learn to prepare themselves before starting a task by choosing a suitable place to sit, gathering what they need, and removing anything that might interrupt their thinking. Staff support this by modelling calm focus and by gently drawing attention to the choices that help children stay engaged.
At home, families can help children build this awareness by creating small routines that make focusing feel easier. A tidy surface, a comfortable seat, and a clear beginning help children settle more quickly. Talking aloud about your own attention, for example “I am going to move my phone so I can concentrate,” shows children that adults also make adjustments to support their thinking. When a child becomes distracted, a simple question such as “What would help you get back into this?” encourages them to take ownership of the next step rather than relying on an adult to fix the situation for them.
Children benefit from practising short periods of focused time followed by a brief pause. This helps them experience success without feeling overwhelmed. Over time, they learn to extend these periods naturally. When adults notice and name the choices children make, such as “You turned your chair away from the noise so you could focus,” children begin to understand that these small decisions have a real impact on their learning. This builds confidence and helps them feel more in control of their own attention.
Managing distractions is not about expecting silence or perfect concentration. It is about helping children understand themselves as learners and giving them the tools to make thoughtful adjustments when they need them. Children who develop this habit become more organised, more reflective, and more able to take responsibility for how they approach their work. They learn that attention can be shaped, supported, and strengthened, both in school and at home.

Leavers' Hoodies
Can you believe we already at the time for thinking about leavers' hoodies? Every year, our children love having their leavers' hoodies to wear. But, the feedback has been that perhaps they get them too late and in the height of summer when it is too hot to wear them. So, our office has got on this extra early this year. Our partners at 'Team Hoodies' have set up an online shop for you to purchase hoodies for the children.
By clicking on this link, you can view a variety of colours and sizes that you can then purchase for your child. By doing this early, we've managed to get a discounted price of £19.
