CARREG LAM
Ein Pumed Carfan yn Graddio
Roedd seremoni raddio Carreg Lam ddydd Mercher yn ddigwyddiad twymgalon, yn dathlu llwyddiannau saith o blant sydd wedi dangos gwelliant rhyfeddol yn eu hyder yn y Gymraeg. Roedd y seremoni yn llawn llawenydd a balchder wrth i bob plentyn dderbyn eu tystysgrif raddio, gan nodi carreg filltir arwyddocaol yn eu taith addysgol. Roedd yn bleser gennym groesawu’r Cwnselydd Richard Clarke, yr Aelod dros Addysg, i roi eu tystysgrifau i’r plant.
Uned darpariaeth drochi hwyr yw Carreg Lam sydd wedi ei lleoli yn ein hysgol. Mae wedi'i gynllunio i helpu plant 7 i 11 oed sy'n trosglwyddo o addysg cyfrwng Saesneg i addysg cyfrwng Cymraeg. Mae hefyd yn cefnogi’r plant hynny sydd angen hwb yn eu hyder gyda’u defnydd o’r Gymraeg. Mae'r uned yn darparu rhaglen iaith ddwys 12 wythnos gyda'r nod o wella sgiliau a hyder Cymraeg y plant, gan eu galluogi i integreiddio i ddosbarthiadau cyfrwng Cymraeg prif ffrwd.
Mae'r enw "Carreg Lam" yn golygu "stepping stone," sy'n adlewyrchu ei rôl wrth helpu dysgwyr i gymryd camau arwyddocaol yn eu taith ddysgu iaith. Cefnogir y rhaglen gan grant gan Lywodraeth Cymru.
Ydych chi'n nabod rhywun a fyddai wrth ei fodd yn dysgu Cymraeg? Dyw hi ddim yn rhy hwyr!!! Mae ein carfan newydd yn dechrau ym mis Ionawr!
CORNEL GWYBODAETH
Pwysigrwydd Cwsg ac Amser Seibiant
Yn ein byd cyflym, mae'n dod yn fwyfwy cyffredin i'n plant aros i fyny'n hwyr. Mewn nifer o’n sgyrsiau gyda rhieni dros yr wythnosau diwethaf, mae cwsg wedi dod i fyny fel pwnc trafod. Felly, heddiw, rwyf am amlinellu pwysigrwydd arferion cysgu plant yn ogystal ag amser segur oherwydd bod y pethau hyn yn cael effaith enfawr ar iechyd a lles plant yn ogystal â'u dysgu. Y llynedd, yn ystod ein gwersi lles, cododd plant hŷn (yn arbennig) mewn gweithgareddau yr oeddent yn cydnabod eu hunain nad oeddent yn mynd i wely yn ddigon cynnar.
Nid amser i orffwys yn unig yw cwsg; mae'n broses hollbwysig sy'n cefnogi gwahanol agweddau ar dwf a datblygiad plentyn. Yn ystod cwsg, mae'r ymennydd yn prosesu ac yn cydgrynhoi gwybodaeth a ddysgwyd trwy gydol y dydd. Mae hyn yn arbennig o bwysig i blant, gan fod eu hymennydd yn amsugno gwybodaeth newydd yn gyson. Mae cwsg digonol yn helpu i wella cof, sgiliau datrys problemau, a swyddogaeth wybyddol gyffredinol. Heb ddigon o gwsg, efallai y bydd plant yn ei chael hi'n anodd cadw'r hyn y maent wedi'i ddysgu, gan effeithio ar eu perfformiad academaidd a'u gallu i ddysgu cysyniadau newydd.
Mae twf corfforol yn agwedd hollbwysig arall a gefnogir gan gwsg. Mae hormonau twf yn cael eu rhyddhau yn bennaf yn ystod cwsg dwfn. Mae'r hormonau hyn yn hanfodol ar gyfer datblygiad corfforol, gan gynnwys twf cyhyrau ac atgyweirio meinwe. Mae sicrhau bod plant yn cael digon o gwsg yn cefnogi eu hiechyd corfforol a thwf, gan eu helpu i ddatblygu cyrff cryf a chynnal eu lefelau egni trwy gydol y dydd.
Mae rheoliad emosiynol hefyd yn gysylltiedig yn agos â chysgu. Gall diffyg cwsg arwain at anniddigrwydd, hwyliau ansad, ac anhawster i reoli emosiynau. Mae plant sy'n cael digon o gwsg mewn sefyllfa well i ymdopi â straen ac mae ganddynt agwedd fwy cadarnhaol at fywyd. Maent yn fwy tebygol o fod yn amyneddgar, yn gydweithredol, ac yn gallu rheoli eu teimladau'n effeithiol, sy'n hanfodol ar gyfer eu rhyngweithio cymdeithasol a'u hiechyd meddwl cyffredinol.
Mae cwsg yn chwarae rhan hanfodol wrth gynnal system imiwnedd iach. Credwch neu beidio, mae plant nad ydynt yn cael digon o gwsg yn fwy agored i salwch, gan fod eu cyrff yn llai abl i frwydro yn erbyn heintiau. Mae plentyn sy'n gorffwyso yn dda wedi'i baratoi'n well i ofalu am annwyd cyffredin a salwch arall, gan sicrhau y gall fynychu'r ysgol yn rheolaidd a chymryd rhan mewn gweithgareddau heb ymyrraeth aml oherwydd salwch.
Yn ogystal â chwsg, mae amser segur yr un mor bwysig i blant. Mae amser segur yn cyfeirio at gyfnodau pan nad yw plant yn cymryd rhan mewn gweithgareddau strwythuredig. Mae amser chwarae anstrwythuredig yn galluogi plant i ddefnyddio eu dychymyg a'u creadigrwydd. Mae'r math hwn o chwarae yn hanfodol ar gyfer datblygiad gwybyddol a sgiliau datrys problemau. Pan fydd gan blant y rhyddid i archwilio a chreu heb nodau neu gyfarwyddiadau penodol, maent yn datblygu sgiliau meddwl beirniadol ac yn dysgu sut i fynd i'r afael â phroblemau o wahanol onglau.
Mae amser segur hefyd yn rhoi cyfle i blant ymlacio a dadflino, gan leihau lefelau straen a hybu lles meddyliol. Mae cael amser i ymlacio a chymryd rhan mewn gweithgareddau y maent yn eu mwynhau yn eu helpu i ail-wefru a chynnal cydbwysedd iach rhwng gwaith a chwarae.
Mae datblygu sgiliau cymdeithasol yn fantais sylweddol arall o amser segur. Yn ystod chwarae anstrwythuredig, mae plant yn aml yn ymgysylltu â chyfoedion neu frodyr a chwiorydd, sy'n eu helpu i ddatblygu sgiliau cymdeithasol pwysig fel cydweithredu, cyd-drafod ac empathi. Mae'r rhyngweithiadau hyn yn hanfodol ar gyfer meithrin perthnasoedd cryf a dysgu sut i lywio sefyllfaoedd cymdeithasol yn effeithiol.
Gall annog plant i dreulio eu hamser segur yn yr awyr agored hybu gweithgaredd corfforol, sy'n hanfodol i'w hiechyd cyffredinol. Mae gweithgareddau fel rhedeg, dringo, a chwarae chwaraeon yn helpu i wella sgiliau echddygol a ffitrwydd corfforol. Mae chwarae yn yr awyr agored hefyd yn rhoi ymdeimlad o ryddid ac antur i blant, gan ganiatáu iddynt archwilio eu hamgylchedd a datblygu cysylltiad â natur.
Er mwyn helpu i sicrhau bod eich plant yn cael y cwsg a'r amser segur sydd ei angen arnynt, mae'n bwysig sefydlu trefn gyson o amser gwely sy'n cynnwys gweithgareddau tawelu fel darllen neu gymryd bath cynnes. Mae hyn yn helpu i ddangos i gorff eich plentyn ei bod hi'n bryd ymlacio a pharatoi ar gyfer cwsg.

CARREG LAM
Our Fifth Cohort Graduates
The Carreg Lam graduation ceremony on Wednesday was a heart-warming event, celebrating the achievements of seven children who have shown remarkable improvement in their confidence with the Welsh language. The ceremony was filled with joy and pride as each child received their graduation certificate, marking a significant milestone in their educational journey. We were pleased to welcome Counsellor Richard Clarke, the Member for Education, to provide the children with their certificates.
Carreg Lam is a late immersion provision unit located at our school. It is designed to help children aged 7 to 11 who are transitioning from English-medium to Welsh-medium education. It also supports those children who need a boost in confidence with their use of the Welsh language. The unit provides a 12-week intensive language programme aimed at improving the children's Welsh language skills and confidence, enabling them to integrate into mainstream Welsh-medium classes.
The name "Carreg Lam" means "stepping stone," reflecting its role in helping learners take significant steps in their language learning journey. The programme is supported by a Welsh Government grant.
Do you know someone who would love to learn Welsh? Its not too late!!! Our new cohort starts in January!
INFORMATION CORNER
The Importance of Sleep and Downtime
In our fast-paced world, it's becoming increasingly common for our children to stay up late. In a number of our conversations with parents over the last few weeks, sleep has come up as a hot topic of conversation. So, today, I want to just outline the importance of children’s sleep routines but also downtime because these things have a huge impact on children’s health and wellbeing in addition to their learning. Last year, during our wellbeing lessons, older children (in particular) raised in activities that they recognised themselves that they were not going to bed early enough.
Sleep is not just a time for rest; it's a vital process that supports various aspects of a child's growth and development. During sleep, the brain processes and consolidates information learned throughout the day. This is particularly important for children, as their brains are constantly absorbing new information. Adequate sleep helps improve memory, problem-solving skills, and overall cognitive function. Without sufficient sleep, children may struggle to retain what they've learned, impacting their academic performance and ability to learn new concepts.
Physical growth is another critical aspect supported by sleep. Growth hormones are primarily released during deep sleep. These hormones are essential for physical development, including muscle growth and tissue repair. Ensuring children get enough sleep supports their physical health and growth, helping them to develop strong bodies and maintain their energy levels throughout the day.
Emotional regulation is also closely tied to sleep. Lack of sleep can lead to irritability, mood swings, and difficulty managing emotions. Children who get sufficient sleep are better equipped to handle stress and have a more positive outlook on life. They are more likely to be patient, cooperative, and able to manage their feelings effectively, which is crucial for their social interactions and overall mental health.
Sleep plays a crucial role in maintaining a healthy immune system. Believe it or not, children who do not get enough sleep are more susceptible to illnesses, as their bodies are less capable of fighting off infections. A well-rested child is better prepared to fend off common colds and other illnesses, ensuring they can attend school regularly and participate in activities without frequent interruptions due to sickness.
In addition to sleep, downtime is equally important for children. Downtime refers to periods when children are not engaged in structured activities. Unstructured playtime allows children to use their imagination and creativity. This type of play is essential for cognitive development and problem-solving skills. When children have the freedom to explore and create without specific goals or instructions, they develop critical thinking skills and learn to approach problems from different angles.
Downtime also provides an opportunity for children to relax and unwind, reducing stress levels and promoting mental wellbeing. Having time to relax and engage in activities they enjoy helps them to recharge and maintain a healthy balance between work and play.
Social skills development is another significant benefit of downtime. During unstructured play, children often engage with peers or siblings, which helps them develop important social skills such as cooperation, negotiation, and empathy. These interactions are crucial for building strong relationships and learning how to navigate social situations effectively.
Encouraging children to spend their downtime outdoors can promote physical activity, which is vital for their overall health. Activities like running, climbing, and playing sports help improve motor skills and physical fitness. Outdoor play also provides children with a sense of freedom and adventure, allowing them to explore their environment and develop a connection with nature.
To help ensure your children get the sleep and downtime they need, it's important to establish a consistent bedtime routine that includes calming activities such as reading or taking a warm bath. This helps signal to your child's body that it's time to wind down and prepare for sleep.
