Canrannau Presenoldeb
Dros y dyddiau diwethaf, rydym wedi cael rhai ymholiadau ynghylch canrannau presenoldeb. Mae hyn yn deillio o negeseuon cyfryngau cymdeithasol Torfaen ynghylch absenoldebau awdurdodedig ac anawdurdodedig. Felly, gadewch i mi egluro sut mae’n gweithio: mae canran presenoldeb eich plentyn yn adlewyrchu pa mor aml y maent wedi bod yn yr adeilad ac yn dysgu. Er enghraifft, mae presenoldeb o 95% yn golygu eu bod wedi bod yn adeilad yr ysgol am 95% o'r sesiynau sydd ar gael. Byddai hyn hefyd yn golygu eu bod wedi bod yn absennol am 5% o ddyddiau. Yn anffodus, a dyma lle mae’r dryswch gyda rhai teuluoedd, nid yw awdurdodi absenoldeb yn newid canran presenoldeb plentyn. Ni allwn newid faint o amser y maent wedi bod yn bresennol yn yr adeilad ond gyda’ch cymorth chi, ynghyd â thystiolaeth o nodiadau meddygon a chardiau apwyntiad, gallwn gofnodi resymau dilys dros absenoldeb ac osgoi cosbau cyfnod penodol posibl sydd i ddod i grym ar draws yr awdurdod.

Eisteddfodau Ysgol a Threfniadau Dydd Gwyl Dewi
Yfory, rydym yn gyffrous y byddwn yn cynnal cyfres o Eisteddfodau bach gyda chystadlaethau. Gall pawb sydd eisiau rhoi cynnig arni! Mae gennym rai cystadlaethau synhwyrol a rhai doniol!
Gall plant ddod i'r ysgol mewn gwisg draddodiadol Gymreig, dillad rygbi neu bêl-droed Cymreig, neu wedi gwisgo mewn coch. I'r rhai nad ydynt yn hoffi gwisgo i fyny, beth am wisgo cennin pedr neu genhinen? Nid ydym am i neb deimlo dan bwysau!
Bydd cystadlaethau gwaith cartref yn cael eu beirniadu a'u dyfarnu ddydd Gwener. Felly, gwnewch yn siŵr bod unrhyw gystadlaethau gwaith cartref i mewn erbyn bore dydd Gwener fan bellaf. Ni allwn aros i weld eu creadigaethau! Mae'r rhai sydd wedi dod i mewn yn barod mor greadigol! Yr hyn sy'n fy mhlesio yw bod plant wedi cael cymaint o hwyl yn gwneud eu darnau celf ac ysgrifenedig!

Diwrnod y Llyfr
Cofiwch ein bod wedi symud ein Diwrnod y Llyfr i'r 9fed o Fawrth. Mae hyn yn golygu nad ydym yn dathlu’r digwyddiad ar yr un diwrnod â rhai ysgolion eraill. Mae'r ffordd hon yn decach fel nad oes rhaid i bobl wisgo i fyny ddwywaith mewn wythnos.
Ar Ddiwrnod y Llyfr (Dydd Iau 9fed o Fawrth) gall plant ddod wedi gwisgo fel cymeriad o lyfr neu ddod i’r ysgol mewn pyjamas gyda’u hoff stori amser gwely.

Torfwyl
Dydd Sadwrn yma, rydym yn gyffrous fod Menter Iaith yn cynnal gŵyl fach yn ein hysgol.
Mae Torfhwyl yn ŵyl Gymraeg a gynhelir o fewn Sir Torfaen sy’n cael ei chynnal i ddathlu ein Cymreictod a’n hiaith Gymraeg. Bydd llawer o stondinau yn hysbysebu busnesau lleol, stondinau yn gwerthu cynnyrch, gweithgareddau i blant eu mwynhau a sŵn cerddoriaeth Gymraeg yn llenwi’r awyr. Mae’n gyfle gwych i gymdeithasu a chlywed am ddigwyddiadau’r dyfodol. Nid oes unrhyw gost i deuluoedd a'r cyfan sydd angen i chi ei wneud yw troi i fyny! Byddwn i wrth fy modd yn gweld cannoedd ohonoch chi yno!
Cynhelir y digwyddiad rhwng 10am a 2pm.

Trip Dros Nos
Mae’n llai na mis nawr tan y Trip Dros Nos (Big Sleepover)! A fyddech cystal â pharhau i arbed y gost dros yr ychydig wythnosau nesaf i sicrhau ei fod yn cael ei dalu'n llawn erbyn dydd Gwener 24ain o Fawrth? Os ydych chi'n cael trafferth talu am resymau technegol neu resymau eraill, cysylltwch â ni heddiw i weld sut y gallwn ni helpu. Peidiwch â'i adael tan yn ddiweddarach!

Siop Gyfnewid Eco
Rydym mor ddiolchgar i gymuned ein hysgol am gynnig cymorth i adeiladu ein siop cyfnewid eco. Cawsom gymaint o gynigion o gymorth - byddwn yn cymryd rhai ohonoch i fyny ar eich cynigion o gymorth ymhen ychydig wythnosau pan fydd yr hafdy ei hun yn cael ei adeiladu. Bydd llawer i'w wneud wrth sefydlu unwaith y bydd y gragen wedi'i hadeiladu!
Mae un o’n rhieni, sy’n berchen ar gwmni adeiladu, wedi darparu’n hael yr holl lafur i adeiladu ein siop eco-gyfnewid. Fe welwch ddoe, y gosodwyd y sylfaen goncrid i baratoi ar gyfer adeiladu’r hafdy ar ei ben pan fydd yn cyrraedd. Felly, diolch yn fawr iawn i Shaw-Fix Contractors am eu buddsoddiad amser yn ein hysgol a chefnogaeth i fentrau gwyrdd.
Cam cyntaf yr hyn y byddwn yn ei gynnig fydd siop cyfnewid gwisg ysgol. Yna, rydym yn gobeithio ehangu a darparu y gormodedd o fwyd sy’n dod o archfarchnadoedd a fyddai fel arfer yn mynd i safleoedd tirlenwi. Mae ein eco-bwyllgor yn gyffrous iawn!

Carreg Lam – Yn Lawnsio!
Rydym mor gyffrous bod Mrs Carys Soper a Miss Sophie Allen wedi dechrau gweithio gyda ni ddoe. Maent yn paratoi yn barod ar gyfer ein carfan gyntaf o blant a fydd yn ymuno â’n huned drochi yn syth ar ôl y Pasg.
Mae Carreg Lam yn uned darpariaeth trochi hwyr newydd sy’n cael ei sefydlu ar hyn o bryd. Ein nod yw helpu dysgwyr sy’n dechrau addysg cyfrwng Cymraeg yn ddiweddarach (rhwng 7-11) a disgyblion nad yw’r Gymraeg wedi bod yn rhan o’u trefn feunyddiol, i ennill y sgiliau a’r hyder sydd eu hangen i barhau â’u dysgu drwy’r Gymraeg. Yn gyffredinol, bydd plant yn ymuno â’r uned am gyfnod dysgu dwys o tua 12 wythnos cyn hynny yn mynd trwy gyfnod o integreiddio pontio i leoliadau prif ffrwd Cymraeg yn Nhorfaen. Mae ein henw 'Carreg Lam' yn golygu carreg gamu oherwydd ein bod yn bont i ddyfodol dwyieithog newydd i bob disgybl. Nid yw'n rhy hwyr!

Updating Contact Details
If you have updated your contact details (such as phone number or address), we kindly ask that you contact the school to let us know. Additionally, please think of whether your child’s other contacts (in case we cannot get hold you) have also updated their contact details. You can let us know by sending us an email on office.ysgolpanteg@torfaen.gov.uk. We will then update your child’s record accordingly. This is incredibly important so that we can get hold of you or a contact in an emergency.

Attendance Percentages
Over the last few days, we’ve had some queries regarding attendance percentages. This comes off the back of Torfaen’s social media posts regarding authorised and unauthorised absences. So, let me explain how they work: your child’s attendance percentage reflects how often they have been in the building and learning. For instance, 95% attendance means they have been in the school building for 95% of available sessions. This would also mean that they have been absent for 5% of days. Now, this is where authorised and unauthorised absences comes into play. Authorised means that families have provided legitimate reasons for absence such as illness. Unauthorised absences are given when a reason for absence is not legitimate. Our plea to you as parents is to have your child in school for as much time as possible so that they can learn and socialise. Unfortunately, and this is where the confusion lies with some families, authorising an absence doesn’t change a child’s attendance percentage. We can’t change the amount of time they have been present in the building but with your help, along with evidence from doctors’s notes and appointment cards, we can account for legitimate reasons for absence and avoid possible fixed term penalties that are due to come into force across the authority.
Where children are not in school, please contact the office via phone or email as soon as possible (preferably before 9am) so that we can support. Miss Catherine Duke, our attendance officer, helps families with a plethora of different types of support and advice. She is available each morning via phone or email. Teacher Strikes
Just to confirm, due to our teachers being in a different union than those striking this week, our school will remain fully open for all on Thursday.

St. David’s Day Menu
Tomorrow, our kitchen is providing a special menu in honour of St. David’s Day. There is no need to preorder this special meal - children can order in the morning as normal. The menu is given below! A big thank you goes out to Cheryl and her team for organising a special menu!

School Eisteddfods and St. David’s Day Arrangements
Tomorrow, we are excited that we will be holding a series of mini-Eisteddfod’s with competitions. Everyone who wants to have a go can! We have some serious competitions and some funny ones!
Children can come to school in Welsh traditional costume, Welsh rugby or football gear, or simply dressed in red. For those who do not like to dress up, why not simply wear a daffodil or leek? We don’t want anyone to feel under pressure!
Homework competitions will be judged and awarded on Friday. Therefore, please make sure any homework competitions are in by Friday morning at the very latest. We cannot wait to see their creations! The ones that have come in already are so creative! What pleases me is that children have had so much fun in making their art and written pieces!

World Book Day
Please remember that we have moved our World Book Day to the 9th of March. This means that we are not celebrating the event on the same day as some other schools. This way is fairer so that people do not have to dress up twice in one week.
On our World Book Day (Thursday 9th of March) children can come dressed as a character from a book or can come into school in pyjamas with their favourite bedtime story.

Torfwyl
This Saturday, we are excited that Menter Iaith will be holding a mini-festival at our school.
Torfhwyl is a Welsh festival held within Torfaen County which is held to celebrate our Welshness and Welsh language. There will be lots of stalls advertising local businesses, stalls selling produce, activities for children to enjoy and the sound of Welsh music filling the air. It’s a great opportunity to socialise and hear about future events. There is no cost for families and all you need to do is turn up! I’d love to see hundreds of you there!
The event runs from 10am until 2pm.
Some planned performances of the day are:
-10:15, Eleri Darkins (Professional Harpist) will be performing,
-10:45, Halibalw (children’s entertainment) will be performing their show.
-12:15, Rhodri McDonagh (guitarist and singer) will be performing.
-13:00, the folk and country band, ‘Paid Gofyn’ will be performing.
Throughout the day activities will be run for children:
-‘Cymraeg i Blant’ will be running activities and child yoga!
-From 11:00 until 12:00, skateboarding activity and lessons will be available.
-Torfaen Fitness will be providing activities too throughout the day.

It’s less than a month now until the Big Sleepover! Please continue to chip away at the cost over the next few weeks to ensure that it is paid in full by Friday 24th of March. Eco Swap Shop
We are so grateful to our school community for offering to help with the building of our eco swap shop. We had so many offers of help - will be taking some of you up on your offers of help in a few weeks when the summerhouse itself is built. There will be lots to do in setting up once the shell is built!
One of our parents, who owns a building firm, has generously provided all the labour to build our eco-swap shop. You will see that yesterday, the concrete base was laid in preparation for the summerhouse to be built on top of when it arrives. So, a huge thank you to Shaw-Fix Contractors for their time investment in our school and support of green initiatives.
The first stage of what we will offer will be a uniform swap shop. We are then hoping to expand and provide excess food from supermarkets that would normally go into landfill. Our eco-committee are very excited!

Carreg Lam is Launching!
We are so excited that Mrs Carys Soper and Miss Sophie Allen have begun working with us yesterday. They are preparing for our first cohort of children who will join our immersion unit straight after Easter.
Carreg Lam is a new late-immersion provision unit currently being set up. Our aim is to help learners entering Welsh-medium education at a later stage (between 7-11) and pupils for whom Welsh has not have been part of their daily routine, to gain the skills and confidence needed to continue their learning through Welsh. Children generally will join the unit for an intense learning period of approximately 12 weeks before then undergoing a period of transitioned integration into Welsh-language main stream settings within Torfaen. Our name 'Carreg Lam' means stepping stone because we are a bridge into a new bilingual future for every pupil. It is not too late!
