Mae plant yn rhesymu ymhell cyn y gallant ddisgrifio beth yw rhesymu. Maent yn pwyso a mesur posibiliadau heb ei gyhoeddi, yn dilyn edafedd bach o dystiolaeth heb sylwi eu bod yn gwneud hynny, ac yn ffurfio barn gynnar sy'n deillio o baru'r hyn maen nhw'n ei weld â'r hyn maen nhw'n ei gofio. Mae rhesymu'n tyfu'n dawel trwy'r cymariaethau bob dydd hyn. Mae plentyn yn wynebu pos bach, yn cofio rhywbeth tebyg, ac yn cyrraedd casgliad sy'n gwneud synnwyr iddyn nhw. Nid rhesymeg ffurfiol mohoni. Dyma'r arwydd cyntaf bod syniadau'n dechrau dylanwadu ar ei gilydd.
Mae rhesymu hefyd yn dod i'r amlwg yn y ffordd y mae plant yn egluro eu hunain. Pan fyddant yn disgrifio pam y gwnaethon nhw ddewis opsiwn penodol, maent yn datgelu sut maen nhw'n cysylltu profiadau'r gorffennol â'r foment bresennol. Efallai na fyddant yn mynegi'r meddwl llawn, ond mae'r ddolen yno: "digwyddodd hyn o'r blaen, felly gallai hyn weithio nawr". Mae eu hesboniadau'n dangos bod meddwl yn dod yn drefnus. Bydd ein PTA yn cynnal ei Chyfarfod Cyffredinol Blynyddol ddydd Iau, y 4ydd o Fehefin, am 4:30 y prynhawn yma yn yr ysgol. Mae'r PTA yn chwarae rhan hanfodol wrth gefnogi digwyddiadau, codi arian a chreu cyfleoedd sy'n elwa ein holl blant, ac rydym yn hynod ddiolchgar am bopeth maen nhw'n ei wneud.
Rydym mewn gwir angen gwirfoddolwyr newydd a all gynnig ychydig o amser, egni neu arbenigedd. Mae hyd yn oed cyfraniadau bach yn gwneud gwahaniaeth mawr ac yn ein helpu i barhau i ddarparu'r profiadau y mae ein disgyblion yn eu mwynhau cymaint. Trefniadau Mabolgampau
Ymhen ychydig wythnosau, rydym yn edrych ymlaen at ein diwrnodau chwaraeon! Dyma rywfaint o wybodaeth allweddol i helpu'r diwrnodau hynny i redeg mor esmwyth â phosibl.
Byddwn yn cadarnhau yn y bore erbyn 9.15 fan bellaf bob dydd a yw'r diwrnod chwaraeon yn parhau y diwrnod hwnnw. Byddwn yn asesu gwres, glaw a hefyd pa mor llithrig yw'r glaswellt (er mwyn osgoi anaf diangen).
Gan ein bod yn cynnal y diwrnod chwaraeon fel cylchdaith, byddwn yn gofyn i chi ddilyn dosbarth eich plentyn o amgylch y gylchdaith er mwyn eu gweld yn cymryd rhan. Mae'r gylchdaith hon i sicrhau ein bod yn gwneud y mwyaf o amser ac nad yw plant yn eistedd heb wneud dim am gyfnodau hir. Os ydych chi wedi bod i'n diwrnodau chwaraeon dros y blynyddoedd blaenorol, byddwch chi'n gyfarwydd â threfn y diwrnod.
Cofiwch fod hwn yn ddiwrnod chwaraeon hwyliog i blant. Bydd rasys timau a rasys unigol. Bydd rhywun yn ennill pob ras. Rwy'n siŵr y byddwch chi'n cytuno, ein bod ni eisiau amser da i bawb ac i bawb gymryd rhan. Y rhan bwysicaf yw bod pawb yn cymryd rhan ac yn cael eu hannog! Felly, hwyliwch y rhai na all eu rhieni fod yno.
Dylai plant wisgo dillad ymarfer corff synhwyrol. Bydd athro/athrawes eich dosbarth yn eich atgoffa o liw eu tŷ drwy ClassDojo erbyn diwedd y dydd heddiw. Fodd bynnag, nid yw'n ddiwedd y byd os nad ydyn nhw'n dod yn y lliw penodol hwnnw - felly peidiwch â phoeni am fynd allan i brynu crys-t os nad oes ganddyn nhw un yn y lliw penodol.

Yn ystod y diwrnod chwaraeon, anogwch eich plentyn i wrando ar yr athro/athrawes oherwydd byddan nhw'n rhoi cyfarwyddiadau. Dydyn ni ddim eisiau i blant grwydro i ffwrdd gydag oedolion. Maen nhw i aros gyda'u dosbarth bob amser. Bydd gennym redwyr toiled i sicrhau y gall plant fynd i'r toiled pan fydd angen - byddwn ni'n cymryd cyfrifoldeb am hyn.
Ar ddiwedd pob diwrnod chwaraeon, gallwch chi fynd â'ch plentyn yn gynnar. Byddwn yn sicrhau bod pob plentyn yn dychwelyd i'w hystafelloedd dosbarth er mwyn casglu eu heitemau personol cyn gadael. Rydym yn gwneud hyn hefyd i sicrhau ein bod yn gwybod yn union pwy sy'n mynd adref gyda phwy a'n bod wedi cofnodi hyn.
Os na fyddwn yn gorffen yr holl weithgareddau a osodwyd fel rhan o'r diwrnod chwaraeon yn yr amser a neilltuwyd, byddwn yn sicrhau bod plant yn cael cyfle i gwblhau'r gweithgaredd/gweithgareddau dros yr wythnos. Fy arwyddair yw ei bod yn well cynllunio gormod yn hytrach na chael trafferth i wneud pethau!

Efeillio Toiledau
Arweiniodd ein Cyngor Ysgol ddiwrnod di-wisg ysgol meddylgar a phwrpasol heddiw i godi arian ar gyfer Gefeillio Toiledau, elusen sy'n helpu i ddarparu cyfleusterau toiled diogel, hylan a dŵr glân mewn cymunedau lle mae'r hanfodion hyn yn dal allan o gyrraedd. Roedd y disgyblion yn awyddus i dynnu sylw at pam mae'r gwaith hwn yn bwysig: mae tua 1.7 biliwn o bobl yn dal i fod heb fynediad at doiled sylfaenol, ac mae dros 400 miliwn o blant yn mynychu ysgolion heb lanweithdra priodol. Mae Gefeillio Toiledau yn cefnogi cymunedau i adeiladu toiledau, gwella hylendid, a lleihau lledaeniad clefydau, gan helpu plant i aros yn iach a gallu mynychu'r ysgol yn rheolaidd. Drwy ddewis yr elusen hon, dangosodd ein Cyngor Ysgol ddealltwriaeth glir o sut y gall rhywbeth mor gyffredin â thoiled drawsnewid bywyd bob dydd. Rydym yn ddiolchgar i bawb a gyfrannodd ac yn falch o'r disgyblion am arwain gyda'r fath bwrpas.

Helping Children Take Their Next Steps to Independence: Reasoning
Children reason long before they can describe what reasoning is. They weigh possibilities without announcing it, follow small threads of evidence without noticing they are doing so, and form early judgments that come from matching what they see with what they remember. Reasoning grows quietly through these everyday comparisons. A child faces a minor puzzle, recalls something similar, and reaches a conclusion that makes sense to them. It is not formal logic. It is the first sign that ideas are beginning to influence each other.
Reasoning also emerges in the way children explain themselves. When they describe why they chose a particular option, they reveal how they connect past experiences with the present moment. They might not articulate the full thought, but the link is there: “this happened before, so this might work now”. Their explanations show that thinking is becoming organised. Even a brief sentence can reveal the structure underneath: a structure that helps them choose, plan, and revise.
Another part of reasoning appears when children check their own ideas. They notice when an outcome does not match what they expected, and they adjust. This ability to revise, or to see a mismatch and respond, is a significant shift. It shows that ideas are not fixed points but working models. Children begin to treat their thinking as something that can be tested. They observe, compare, and alter their approach, often without being told to do so.
Children also develop reasoning through the way they listen to others. When they encounter a different opinion, they begin to notice that thinking is not identical from one person to another. Some ideas match their own; others do not. This awareness has an important effect: it encourages children to examine the reasons behind their own choices. They start to ask, internally, ‘Why do I think that?’, not because they doubt themselves, but because they recognise that ideas can vary and still be valid.
Reasoning shows itself again in how children use information. They gather clues, evaluate which ones matter, and decide how much weight to give them. They might not use the word “evidence,” but they draw on it. They compare one source to another, look more closely at details, or abandon a weak explanation for a stronger one. These are the foundations of analytical thinking: choosing what is relevant, discarding what is not, and building conclusions that feel supported.
At its strongest, reasoning becomes a habit. Children can explain why they made a decision, change their approach when something shifts, and reflect on the quality of their ideas. They understand that conclusions can be revisited, strengthened, or replaced. Thinking becomes less about arriving at an answer and more about understanding how answers come to be.

Supporting Spelling at Home
As part of our ongoing work to help children feel confident with their spelling, we want to remind families that we have recorded versions of all our spelling word lists. These short video clips make it easier for children to hear each word pronounced clearly, especially in Welsh, and they can be a great help during practice at home. Families can listen together at a pace that suits them, whether they are revisiting familiar words or exploring new ones for the first time. Jack and Iwan's Success
We are delighted to share the wonderful news that Jack and Iwan have recently represented Pontypool Schools District Rugby Under 11s during a tour to Italy. After a demanding series of trials, both boys were selected for the 2025–26 squad, a testament to their determination, resilience and growing skill on the field. Throughout the season they have shown real commitment, working hard in every training session and giving their very best in every match. Well done, boys!

PTA Annual General Meeting
Our PTA will be holding its Annual General Meeting on Thursday the 4th of June at 4:30pm here at the school. The PTA plays a vital role in supporting events, fundraising and creating opportunities that benefit all of our children, and we are extremely grateful for everything they do.
We are in real need of new volunteers who can offer a little time, energy or expertise. Even small contributions make a big difference and help us continue providing the experiences our pupils enjoy so much. If you are able to get involved, we would be delighted to welcome you.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Sports Day Arrangements
In a few weeks time, we are looking forward to our sports days! Here is some key information to help those days run as smoothly as possible.
We will confirm on the morning by 9.15 at the latest each day if the sports day is continuing that day. We will be assessing heat, rain and also how slippery the grass is (to avoid unnecessary injury).
As we are running the sports day as a circuit, we will be asking you to follow your child’s class around the circuit in order to see them take part. This circuit is to ensure that we maximise time and that children are not sitting doing nothing for long periods. If you have been to our sports days over the previous years, you will be familiar with the running of the day.
Please remember that this is a fun sports day for children. There will be teams races and individual races. Someone will win each race. I am sure you will agree, that we want a good time for all and for everyone to take part. The most important part is that everyone is involved and is cheered on! So, please do cheer for those whose parents can’t be there.
Children should wear sensible PE wear. Your class teacher will remind you of their house colour via ClassDojo. However, it is not the end of the world, if they don’t come in that specific colour - so please do not worry about going out to buy a t-shirt if they don’t have one in the specific colour.
The side gate (near the front plaza) will be where you can enter the site. It will be opened 15 minutes before the start time. The gate will be locked during the sports day activities to ensure the safety of the children. Please note that we will not be allowing children to leave until the sports day has finished.
During the sports day, please do encourage your child to listen to the teacher because they will be giving instructions. We do not want children wandering off with adults. They are to stay with their class at all times. We will have toilet runners to ensure that children can go to the toilet when they need to - we will take responsibility for this.
At the end of each sports day, you are able to take your child early. We will ensure that all children return to their classrooms in order to pick up their personal items before leaving. We do this also to ensure that we know exactly who is going home with who and that we have recorded this.
In the event that we do not finish all the activities laid out as part of the sports day in the allocated time. We will ensure that children get chance to complete the activity/activities over the course for the week. My motto is that it is better to be over planned rather than struggling for things to do!
Please remember to park sensibly. We have limited car park spaces at school, so please park with consideration of others’ safety and consideration of local residents.
I am so grateful to Mr. Alexander who has arranged the sports days to ensure that there is lots to do and lots of fun to be had.

Toilet Twinning
Our School Council led a thoughtful and purposeful non‑uniform day today to raise money for Toilet Twinning, a charity that helps provide safe, hygienic toilet facilities and clean water in communities where these essentials are still out of reach. The pupils were keen to highlight why this work matters: around 1.7 billion people still lack access to a basic toilet, and over 400 million children attend schools without proper sanitation. Toilet Twinning supports communities to build toilets, improve hygiene, and reduce the spread of disease, helping children stay healthy and able to attend school regularly. By choosing this charity, our School Council showed a clear understanding of how something as ordinary as a toilet can transform daily life. We are grateful to everyone who contributed and proud of the pupils for leading with such purpose.
This morning, we have raised £282! Which is enough to pay for 5 toilets for those who do not have these facilities! You can still give via Civica Pay - it is open for donations until midnight!

Our Nursery children enjoyed a lovely tea party yesterday as part of their work on ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea’. Families joined us for cake and scones. The children were proud to share two songs they have been learning: “Mr Teigr Ydw I” and “Dwi’n Hoffi Cyfri”. There were lots of smiles all round! Their recent classroom activities have explored the story in a range of creative ways, and the tea party offered a gentle celebration of everything they have been doing together.
