Mae rhywbeth diamheuol am y ffordd y mae plant yn archwilio. Nid yw eu chwilfrydedd yn gwrtais nac yn ofalus. Mae'n fywiog, yn gorfforol, ac yn llawn momentwm. Maent yn estyn allan, yn ymestyn ymlaen, yn agor, yn procio, yn codi, yn gogwyddo, yn gwrando, yn arogli, ac yn profi. Mae'r byd yn gwahodd eu sylw ac maent yn ateb ar unwaith. Mae llawenydd yn yr ymchwiliadau cyntaf hyn: llawenydd darganfod rhywbeth newydd heb wybod beth fydd yn ei ddatgelu. Nid yw archwilio, i blant, yn dasg. Mae'n ymateb naturiol i fod yn fyw mewn byd llawn gweadau, siapiau, synau a phosibiliadau.

Wythnos Cerdded i'r Ysgol 18fed – 22ain Mai 2026
Mae mis Mai yn dod â Wythnos Cerdded i'r Ysgol, cyfle hyfryd i deuluoedd osod her syml iddyn nhw eu hunain: teithio i'r ysgol mewn ffordd fwy egnïol. Gyda'r tywydd gobeithio'n gwella, dyma'r foment berffaith i wneud y gorau o'r boreau ysgafnach a rhoi cynnig ar gerdded, olchi, beicio neu sgwtera i'r ysgol ac yn ôl. Mae hyd yn oed newidiadau bach yn adio at ei gilydd, a bydd disgyblion sy'n cymryd rhan eisoes ar eu ffordd i gyflawni'r chwe deg munud o weithgarwch corfforol dyddiol a argymhellir.
Mae gan deithio egnïol fanteision clir. Mae plant sy'n cerdded, beicio neu sgwtera i'r ysgol yn tueddu i gyrraedd yn teimlo'n ffres ac yn barod i ddysgu, ac mae teuluoedd yn aml yn sylwi ar gatiau ysgol tawelach, llai tagfeydd o ganlyniad. Mae dewis gadael y car ar ôl, hyd yn oed am ran o'r daith, hefyd yn helpu'r amgylchedd ac yn cefnogi'r arferion iach rydyn ni eisiau i'n disgyblion eu cario gyda nhw wrth iddyn nhw dyfu.
Mae Wythnos Cerdded i'r Ysgol hefyd yn gyfle gwych i gryfhau cysylltiadau cymunedol. Mae teithio gyda ffrindiau neu gymdogion yn rhoi amser i blant sgwrsio, sylwi ar y byd o'u cwmpas a mwynhau'r pleser syml o symud trwy eu hardal leol. Nid yw'r her yn gyfyngedig i gerdded chwaith; mae beicio, sgwtera a hyd yn oed rhediad ysgafn i gyd yn cyfrif tuag at gymryd rhan.
Rydym yn gwybod nad yw pob teulu'n byw o fewn pellter cerdded, felly anogir rhieni'n gynnes i 'barcio a cherdded' trwy barcio ychydig ymhellach i ffwrdd nag arfer a cherdded rhan olaf y llwybr. Mae'r addasiad bach hwn yn dal i ddod â holl fanteision teithio egnïol wrth helpu i leddfu traffig o amgylch yr ysgol.

ATGOF
Diwrnod Codi Arian Cyngor yr Ysgol
Mae Cyngor yr Ysgol wedi trefnu diwrnod codi arian a gynhelir ddydd Gwener, 22ain Mai.
Bydd yr holl arian a godir yn mynd tuag at achos dewisol Cyngor yr Ysgol, gan ymuno â chynllun Gefeillio Toiledau. Mae'r fenter hon yn helpu teuluoedd a phlant mewn gwledydd tlotach i gael mynediad at lanweithdra gwell a chyfleusterau toiled diogel.
Uchelgais y plant yw, am bob toiled sydd gennym yn ein hysgol, ein bod yn ariannu adeiladu toiled arall. Mae'n costio £60 i adeiladu toiled mewn gwlad fel Arfordir Ifori, Gweriniaeth Ddemocrataidd y Congo, Malawi, Mozambique, Nepal, Nigeria, Pacistan, De Swdan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia neu Simbabwe. Mae hyn yn golygu y bydd angen i ni godi £2,400 dros y flwyddyn nesaf gan fod gennym ni 40 o doiledau!
Pam mae hyn mor bwysig? Mae dŵr yfed budr, hylendid afiach a glanweithdra anniogel yn achosi marwolaethau 1.4 miliwn o bobl bob blwyddyn a dros 1000 o blant dan 5 oed bob dydd. Ac, mae cyngor ein hysgol eisiau rhoi terfyn ar hynny!
Bydd yr 22ain o Fai yn ddiwrnod di-wisg ysgol, ac rydym yn gofyn yn garedig am gyfraniad o £2 gan ddisgyblion sy'n dymuno cymryd rhan. Mae hyn ar gael i'w roi ar Civica Pay.
Yn ogystal, bydd cystadleuaeth hwyl o'r enw "Cyfrifwch y Geiniog, Nid Gwariwch Geiniog". Bydd pob dosbarth yn cymryd rhan trwy ddyfalu faint o geiniogau sydd mewn jar, gyda'r dyfaliad agosaf yn ennill.

Llwyddiant Chwaraeon
Mae wedi bod yn wythnos wych o chwaraeon yn Ysgol Panteg, gyda disgyblion yn cynrychioli'r ysgol gyda sgil, brwdfrydedd ac ysbryd tîm go iawn. Ddydd Mawrth, cymerodd ein merched Blwyddyn 5 a 6 ran mewn gŵyl griced yng Nghlwb Criced Panteg, digwyddiad a gynlluniwyd ar gyfer mwynhad yn hytrach na chystadleuaeth. Taflodd y tîm eu hunain i'r diwrnod gydag egni, ac roeddem wrth ein bodd yn gweld Ffion yn cael ei chydnabod fel chwaraewraig angerddol eithriadol. Dyfarnwyd bat a phêl griced iddi gan Griced Cymru, cydnabyddiaeth hyfryd o'i hymrwymiad.
Daeth dydd Iau â llwyddiant pellach wrth i'n merched Blwyddyn 5 a 6 deithio i Rodney Parade yng Nghasnewydd ar gyfer twrnamaint Rygbi Tag. Fe wnaethant orffen yn eu grŵp ac aethant ymlaen i ennill y gystadleuaeth gyfan, gan ennill gwahoddiad i gynrychioli'r ysgol yn rowndiau terfynol cenedlaethol yr Urdd yn Aberystwyth ym mis Mehefin eleni. Enwyd Harper yn Chwaraewr y Dydd, gyda Ffion ac Isabelle yn arwain fel y sgorwyr gorau.
Gwnaeth ein tîm cymysg Blwyddyn 4 argraff hefyd, gan orffen yn ail yn eu grŵp ac yn ail eto yn y rownd derfynol, gan sicrhau eu gwahoddiad eu hunain i'r rowndiau terfynol cenedlaethol. Enwyd Harley ac Elliott yn Chwaraewyr y Dydd a gorffenasant hefyd fel sgorwyr uchaf ar y cyd, tystiolaeth o'u penderfyniad a'u hyder cynyddol ar y cae.
Edrychwn ymlaen at gystadleuaeth criced gymysg Blwyddyn 5 a 6 a gafodd ei chanslo heddiw hefyd. Bydd Mr Alexander mewn cysylltiad â theuluoedd y tîm cyn gynted ag y cawn y manylion terfynol.
Rydym yn hynod falch o bob disgybl a gynrychiolodd yr ysgol yr wythnos hon. Roedd eu hymdrech, eu chwarae teg a'u llawenydd wrth gymryd rhan yn glod iddynt hwy eu hunain ac i Ysgol Panteg.

Mae'r cyflwyniadau cyntaf hyn bob amser yn teimlo'n arbennig, gan gynnig cipolwg ar y berthnasoedd a fydd yn tyfu dros y misoedd nesaf. Rydym nawr yn edrych ymlaen at groesawu ein teuluoedd Derbyn ddydd Llun am 4:30, pan fydd gennym gyfle i siarad gyda'n gilydd am y flwyddyn i ddod a helpu plant i ddechrau eu cam nesaf yn hyderus.

Helping Children to Take Their Next Steps to Independence: Explore
There is something unmistakable about the way children explore. Their curiosity is not polite or cautious. It is lively, physical, and full of momentum. They reach out, stretch forward, open, poke, lift, tilt, listen, sniff, and test. The world invites their attention and they answer immediately. There is joy in these first investigations: the joy of discovering something new without knowing what it will reveal. Exploration, for children, is not a task. It is a natural response to being alive in a world full of textures, shapes, sounds, and possibilities.
What adults often see as “trying things out” is, for children, a kind of early research. They are collecting clues. They are learning how materials behave, how tools respond, how their own actions can change what they see. There is delight in every small success. A dropped object that bounces instead of falling flat. Water that moves differently in a wide pot than in a narrow one. A new tool that produces a mark they did not expect. These discoveries bring energy to learning because each one suggests there is more waiting to be understood.
As children gain experience, the joy of exploration does not fade. It deepens. They begin to trust that they can approach unfamiliar things and figure them out. That trust shows in their body language: the quick, confident reach for a tool; the steady way they watch what happens; the look of concentration that means something interesting has happened and they want to know why. Exploration at this stage is not just about novelty. It is about developing a sense of capability. Children realise they can shape the world just enough to learn from it.
What makes exploration so powerful is that it lets children experience learning as something they own. They choose what to try. They choose how to begin. They choose what to change next. They become absorbed in the process because the discoveries belong to them. No adult could hand them the same understanding in words. It has to be felt, observed, tested, repeated. And because exploration relies on doing rather than being told, it builds a quiet sense of independence. Children start to believe that they can approach new situations with confidence, and that belief becomes part of who they are.
As children grow older, the joy remains, but it becomes steadier and more thoughtful. They learn how to use tools safely. They learn how to judge the boundaries of a situation. They explore not only because something is new, but because they want to understand how it works. Their approach becomes purposeful without losing its curiosity. They carry their sense of exploration with them from space to space, subject to subject. It shows up whenever they enter a new environment and begin testing what is possible.
Exploration, at its heart, is a celebration of the world’s richness. It shows children that learning is not confined to books or lessons. It is happening constantly, through touch, movement, observation, and experiment. When children explore, they are building a relationship with the world: one that is confident, curious, and open. And that relationship becomes the foundation for the independence they will use in every part of their learning.

Walk to School Week 18th – 22nd May 2026
May brings Walk to School Week, a lovely chance for families to set themselves a simple challenge: travel to school in a more active way. With the weather hopefully brightening, it is the perfect moment to make the most of the lighter mornings and try walking, wheeling, cycling or scooting to and from school. Even small changes add up, and pupils who take part will already be on their way to achieving the recommended sixty minutes of daily physical activity.
Active travel has clear benefits. Children who walk, cycle or scoot to school tend to arrive feeling refreshed and ready to learn, and families often notice calmer, less congested school gates as a result. Choosing to leave the car behind, even for part of the journey, also helps the environment and supports the healthy habits we want our pupils to carry with them as they grow.
Walk to School Week is also a wonderful opportunity to strengthen community connections. Travelling with friends or neighbours gives children time to chat, notice the world around them and enjoy the simple pleasure of moving through their local area. The challenge is not limited to walking either; cycling, scooting and even a gentle run all count towards taking part.
We know that not every family lives within walking distance, so parents are warmly encouraged to ‘park and stride’ by parking a little further away than usual and walking the final part of the route. This small adjustment still brings all the benefits of active travel while helping to ease traffic around the school.

ADVANCE NOTICE
School Council Fundraising Day
The School Council has organised a fundraising day taking place on Friday, 22nd of May.
All money raised will go towards the School Council’s chosen cause, joining the Toilet Twinning scheme. This initiative helps families and children in poorer countries gain access to improved sanitation and safe toilet facilities.
The children’s ambition is that for every toilet we have in our school, that we fund the building of another toilet. It costs £60 to build a toilet in a country such as Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Mozambique, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia or Zimbabwe. This means over the next year, we will need to raise £2,400 since we have 40 toilets!
Why is this so important? Dirty drinking water, unhealthy hygiene and unsafe sanitation cause the deaths of 1.4 million people every year and over 1,000 children under the age of 5 every day. And, our school council want to put an end to that!
The 22nd of May will be a non-uniform day, and we kindly ask for a £2 contribution from pupils who wish to take part. This is available to donate on Civica Pay.
In addition, there will be a fun competition called “Count the Penny, Not Spend a Penny”. Each class will take part by guessing how many pennies are in a jar, with the closest guess winning.

Viral Trend
A concerning online trend has begun circulating on platforms such as TikTok, Instagram and YouTube, encouraging children to microwave soft silicone toys, often sold as NEEDOH toys or squishies, and sometimes marketed under names like Jelly Cubes or Nice Cubes. Despite clear warnings on much of the packaging, videos shared online urge children to heat these toys in order to make them softer and more pliable. The toys may feel cool to the touch once removed from the microwave, but they can burst when squeezed, releasing boiling material onto the hands, neck and face. A child in Bristol was seriously injured on the 4th of May 2026, and similar incidents have been reported in the United States, affecting children as young as seven. We ask all families to be aware of this trend, to speak with their children about the risks, and to ensure that these toys are not placed in microwaves under any circumstances.

Sporting Success
It has been a wonderful week of sport at Ysgol Panteg, with pupils representing the school with skill, enthusiasm and real team spirit. On Tuesday, our Year 5 and 6 girls took part in a cricket festival at Panteg Cricket Club, an event designed for enjoyment rather than competition. The team threw themselves into the day with energy, and we were delighted to see Ffion recognised as an exceptionally passionate player. She was awarded a cricket bat and ball by Cricket Wales, a lovely acknowledgement of her commitment.
Thursday brought further success as our Year 5 and 6 girls travelled to Rodney Parade in Newport for a Tag Rugby tournament. They topped their group and went on to win the entire competition, earning an invitation to represent the school at the Urdd’s national finals in Aberystwyth this June. Harper was named Player of the Day, with Ffion and Isabelle leading as top scorers.
Our mixed Year 4 team also impressed, finishing second in their group and second again in the final round, securing their own invitation to the national finals. Harley and Elliott were named Players of the Day and also finished as joint top scorers, a testament to their determination and growing confidence on the field.
We look forward to the Year 5 and 6 mixed cricket competition that was cancelled today too. Mr Alexander will be in contact with the team's families as soon as we have the final details.
We are incredibly proud of every pupil who represented the school this week. Their effort, sportsmanship and joy in taking part were a credit to themselves and to Ysgol Panteg.

Getting to Know You
It was a real pleasure to meet some of our new Nursery children and their families last night, and to see the excitement beginning to build for September. These first introductions always feel special, offering a glimpse of the relationships that will grow over the coming months. We now look forward to welcoming our Reception families on Monday at 4:30, when we will have the chance to talk together about the year ahead and help children begin their next step with confidence.

Seren and Sbarc Day
Today we enjoyed a vibrant Sbarc and Seren Day, a celebration of all that makes us proudly Welsh. The school was filled with colour and creativity as children designed and wore their own Welsh‑themed superhero capes and masks, each one as individual and imaginative as its maker. It was a joyful way to honour our language and Welshness!
