Bwletin y Pennaeth - 22.09.2023 - Head's Bulletin

SCROLL DOWN FOR ENGLISH VERSION

Annwyl Deuluoedd,

PAWB

Strategaethau Darllen er mwyn Gweithio Allan Ystyr

Dros y bwletinau diwethaf, rydym wedi bod yn canolbwyntio ar bwysigrwydd darllen. Heddiw, rwyf am dynnu sylw at set benodol o strategaethau i helpu'ch plentyn pan ddaw ar draws gair nad yw'n ei d/ddeall ar yr olwg gyntaf.

Yn Ysgol Panteg, rydym yn defnyddio'n bysedd i'n helpu. Dros yr ychydig fisoedd nesaf, byddwn yn gweithio’n galed iawn i sicrhau bod ein holl blant yn deall y pum strategaeth hyn. Mae'r syniad yn mynd fel hyn:

1. Pa gliwiau o’r stori/testun sy’n helpu ni dyfalu ystyr y gair yma? Edrychwch ar y frawddeg cyn ac ar ôl, ydy hynny’n helpu ti i weithio allan yr ystyr?

2. Oes lluniau/diagram sy’n gallu helpu ni weithio allan ystyr y gair? Oes gair cyfarwydd wedi cuddio rhywle yn y gair newydd yma?

3. Os rydym yn torri’r gair lan, ydy hynny’n helpu?

4. Oes awgrymiadau wedi bod yn y testun sy’n helpu ni ddeall y gair? Oes ystyr cudd?

5. Ail-dria’r gair. Sut allet ti weithio allan yr ystyr?

Y tro nesaf y bydd eich plentyn yn darllen ac yn gweld gair yn anodd i'w ddeall, arafwch ef a rhowch gynnig ar un o'r strategaethau hyn gyda nhw.

Felly, byddwn yn dal rhywfaint o ofal plant ar gyfer y rhai sy'n dymuno mynd. Fel y gallwn ei staffio'n iawn, rhowch wybod i ni a oes angen gofal plant arnoch trwy lenwi'r ddolen ganlynol:

Bydd gennym rai lluniaeth ysgafn (te, coffi a bisgedi) ar gael o 3:30.

Y brechlyn ffliw gorau i'r mwyafrif o blant yw chwistrell trwynol. Felly, nid chwistrelliad â nodwydd mo hwn. I gael gwybodaeth am frechu ffliw ewch i www.phw.nhs.wales/fluvaccine.

Reading Strategies to Work Out Meaning

Over the last few bulletins, we have been focusing on the importance of reading. Today, I want to highlight a specific set of strategies to help your child when they come across a word they don't understand at first glance.

At Ysgol Panteg, we use our fingers to help us. Over the next few months, we will be really working hard to ensure that all our children understand these five strategies. The idea goes like this:

1. What clues are in the story/text that help us to guess the meaning of the word? Look at the sentence before and the sentence after, does that help you to understand the word?

2. Are there pictures/diagrams that can help us to work out the meaning of a word? Is there a familiar word hidden within this word?

3. If we break the word up into syllables, does that help?

4. Have there been suggestions in the text that help us to work out the meaning here? Is there a hidden meaning?

5. Re-try that word. How can you work out its meaning?

Next time your child is reading and finds a word tricky to understand, slow them down and try one of these strategies with them.

Estyn - Parents' Meeting - Final Reminder

There will be a parents' meeting with Estyn in the school hall on Monday, 25th September. We expect this to be at 3:45-4:45. Estyn has asked that no children are present at this meeting. Therefore, we will be holding some childcare for those who wish to go. So that we can properly staff it, please let us know if you need childcare by filling out the following link:

We will have some light refreshments (tea, coffee and biscuits) available from 3:30.

YEARS 1-6

Clubs - Final Reminder

This is a small note to remind you that there will be no clubs run by the school on Monday, 25th September and Tuesday, 26th September. This is for one week only and the reason is twofold: (1) so that we can provide a crèche for families who wish to attend the Estyn parents' meeting because they have requested that children not be present at that meeting, and (2) so that the staff can hold meetings with Estyn and be interviewed.

School Photographs - Advance Notice

We have invited Colorfoto to take individual pictures of the children and some sibling groups on Monday, 9th of October. Put this in the diary! More information will follow!

Macmillan Coffee and Cake Morning - Reminder

Following on from the huge success of last year's MacMillan Coffee and Cake Morning, on Friday, September 29th (between 9.30 and 11.15), we plan to hold an open morning at the school in aid of MacMillan Cancer Support.

More information has already been published about this - you can find the information by following this link: https://www.ysgolpanteg.cymru/post/y2023-m09-d12

Flu Immunisations - Reminder

The School Nursing Service will be visiting the school to offer pupils a nasal flu spray vaccine on Thursday, 9th November (Please note change of date).

The consent form can be completed here: https://forms.office.com/e/eyggpck0Kf

Please submit one form per child no later than 48 hours before the above date. Any consent forms submitted after this time may result in your child not receiving their vaccine on the day. Should you have any difficulties accessing the above link, please contact 01633 431685 for further support.

We understand that there are some differing views with regards to vaccinations. However, we believe it is very important to protect your child from flu to make sure they stay as healthy as possible, as flu is likely to circulate this winter. The best flu vaccine for most children is a nasal spray. So, this is not an injection with a needle. For information about flu vaccination please visit www.phw.nhs.wales/fluvaccine.
