Annwyl Deuluoedd,

PAWB

Eisteddfod Ysgol

Rydyn ni wedi cael wythnos wych yn dathlu ein diwylliant Cymru gyda Dydd Gŵyl Dewi a'n Heisteddfod Ysgol! Roedd yn wych gweld plant o bob oed yn ceisio yn y cystadlaethau a'r canmoliaeth a gawsant gan eu teulu ysgol gefnogol. Rhai uchafbwyntiau penodol oedd gweld y llefaru a'r unawdau. Roddodd y plant eu calon a’u henaid i fewn i gystadleuaeth côr llys i ganu ‘Sosban Fach’. Cawsom rai cystadlaethau fwy ffurfiol ar y diwrnod yn paratoi ar gyfer yr Urdd Eisteddfod a chawsom rai doniol iawn: roedd y côr chwibanu yn ddoniol iawn!

O’r pwyntiau llys ar y diwrnod, llys ‘Twmbrarlwm’ a ddaeth gyntaf ac felly oedd enillwyr yr ysgol Eisteddfod ar gyfer 2023. Fodd bynnag, rwyf mor falch o’n holl blant a gymerodd ran. Gan wybod eu teithiau unigol ac, i rai, faint o ddewrder a gymerodd i sefyll yno a pherfformio o flaen cynulleidfa o'u cyfoedion - roeddwn mor prowd! Mae hynny'n dangos ein gwerthoedd ysgol ar waith: roeddent yn angerddol ac yn uchelgeisiol. Mae gwthio'ch hun ymlaen ac allan o'ch parth cysur i roi cynnig ar rywbeth newydd neu i wneud rhywbeth ychydig yn ofnus fel hyn yn haeddu cydnabyddiaeth go iawn.

Os nad ydych wedi ei weld, gwnaethom recordio uchafbwynt ein diwrnod pan ymunodd yr ysgol gyfan ar gyfer yr anthem genedlaethol. Mae'r fideo hon ar gael ar ein gwefan ac ar Facebook.

Heddiw, rydym wedi dyfarnu'r cystadlaethau ysgrifennu a chelf.

Byddwn i wrth fy modd yn gweld cannoedd ohonoch chi yno!

Mae'r digwyddiad yn rhedeg o 10am tan 2pm.

Blynyddoedd 1-6

Cyngerdd Telynores Arbenigol

Heddiw, fel ychydig o syrpreis, gwnaethom gynnal cyngerdd arbennig gyda thelynores arbenigol - Eleri Darkins. Roedd hon yn ffordd wych o orffen ein hwythnos o ddathlu ein diwylliant a'n treftadaeth. Cafodd y plant eu swyno wrth iddi chwarae ar gyfer y cyngerdd byr, rhyngweithiol hwn. Mae hwn yn lansiad gwych i rai o'n dosbarthiadau a fydd yn cael cyfle i roi cynnig ar chwarae'r delyn gyda Mr. Beecham.

Rydym mor falch ein bod yn gallu hwyluso pob plentyn yn rhoi cynnig ar wahanol offerynnau cerdd eleni. Fel y gwyddoch, mae rhai o'n dosbarthiadau yn dysgu'r chwiban geiniog (pennywhistle), eraill y glockenspiels, eraill y iwcalili, eraill y recordwyr, eraill y ffidil a nawr rydym yn ychwanegu'r delyn at y repertoire.

Wedi'i gynllunio ar gyfer yr 21ain o Fawrth, mae gennym ni gyngerdd comedi plant a phedwarawd chwythbrennau yn dod yn ysgol ar gyfer ein blynyddoedd 3-6. Pam rydyn ni'n gwneud hyn? Rydyn ni am i bob plentyn gael cyfleoedd a chael ei swyno gan gerddoriaeth. Mae gan gerddoriaeth gymaint o fuddion mewn bywyd ac nid yw byth yn rhy hwyr i naill ai fynd â'u cariad at gerddoriaeth i lefel newydd, ehangu gorwelion neu ddechrau dysgu offeryn.

Good afternoon families!

EVERYONE

School Eisteddfod

We’ve had a great week celebrating our Welsh culture with St. David’s Day and our school Eisteddfod! It was great to see children from all ages trying in the competitions and the cheers they got from their supportive school family. Some particular highlights were the recitation and solos. The children put their heart and soul into the school house choir contest to sing ‘Sosban Fach’. We had some serious competitions on the day preparing for the Urdd Eisteddfod and we had some really funny ones: the whistling choir was hilarious!

Of our four houses’ points for the day, ‘Twmbarlwm’ came first and therefore were the overall winners of the school Eisteddfod for 2023. However, I am so proud of all of our children who took part. Knowing their individual journeys and, for some, how much courage it took to stand there and perform in front of an audience of their peers makes me so proud of them. That shows our school values in action: they were fired-up and ambitious. Pushing yourself forward and out of your comfort zone to try something new or to do something a little bit scary like this deserves real recognition.

If you haven’t seen it, we recorded the peak of our day when the whole school joined in for the national anthem. This video is available on our website and on Facebook.

Today, we have awarded the writing and art competitions.

EVERYONE

Torfwyl - LAST CALL

Tomorrow: we are excited that Menter Iaith will be holding a mini-festival at our school.

Torfhwyl is a Welsh festival held within Torfaen County which is held to celebrate our Welshness and Welsh language. There will be lots of stalls advertising local businesses, stalls selling produce, activities for children to enjoy and the sound of Welsh music filling the air. It’s a great opportunity to socialise and hear about future events. There is no cost for families and all you need to do is turn up! I’d love to see hundreds of you there!

The event runs from 10am until 2pm.

Some planned performances of the day are:

-10:15, Eleri Darkins (Professional Harpist) will be performing,

-10:45, Halibalw (children’s entertainment) will be performing their show.

-12:15, Rhodri McDonagh (guitarist and singer) will be performing.

-13:00, the folk and country band, ‘Paid Gofyn’ will be performing.

Throughout the day activities will be run for children:

-‘Cymraeg i Blant’ will be running activities and child yoga!

-From 11:00 until 12:00, skateboarding activity and lessons will be available.

-Torfaen Fitness will be providing activities too throughout the day.

YEARS 1-6

Expert Harpist Concert

Today, as a little surprise, we held a special concert with an expert harpist - Eleri Darkins. This was a great way to round up our week of celebrating our culture and heritage. The children were enthralled at her playing for this short, interactive concert. This is a great launch for some of our classes who will be having the opportunity to try out playing the harp with Mr. Beecham.

We are so proud that we are able to facilitate all children trying out different musical instruments this year. As you will know, some of our classes are learning the penny whistle, others glockenspiels, others ukuleles, others recorders, others violins and now we’re adding the harp to the repertoire.

Planned for the 21st of March, we have a children’s comedy brass and woodwind quartet coming school for our Years 3-6. Why are we doing this? We want all children to have opportunities and to be enthralled by music. Music has so many benefits in life and it is never too late to either take their love of music to a new level, expand horizons or begin to learn an instrument.

EVERYONE

This is just a short note to inform children of Miss Brown and Miss Harley’s class that the NHS will be coming in next Tuesday (7th of March) in order to check children’s hearing. You will have already received a letter about this. If you have any questions, please get in contact with us.

EVERYONE

Red Nose Day

Coming up on Friday, 17th of March, we will be holding our Red Nose Day. More details will follow. On this day, we will be holding exciting and motivating activities around children’s rights but will also be having a bit of fun by wearing the wrong trousers! Children will be encouraged to wear their school uniform on their top half and the wrong trousers on their bottom half! You can be as creative as you want! Pyjama bottoms, funky shorts, tutus, joggers with tinsel - you name it! Thank you to Miss Llewellyn who is organising this day.
