Gwarchod Plant / Safeguarding

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility

Ysgol Panteg is committed to keeping children and young people safe from harm and abuse.  Our measures include:

  • Regular review of safeguarding arrangements
  • All staff trained in safeguarding, including spotting signs of abuse and what to do if they or someone else has any concerns about a child
  • Safeguarding policy detailing full procedures updated annually and adopted by the Governing Body
  • Recruitment procedures ensure staff are checked before they work with children

The safeguarding agenda is wide-ranging, from pastoral care and anti-bullying to ensuring children are safe from abuse and neglect or the risk of radicalisation.  We all have a role to play in keeping our children safe.

If you have any concerns, please contact us:

  • Mr Euros Jones (Head Teacher) - Designated Safeguarding Lead
  • In the Head Teacher's absence, contact Mr Tom Rainsbury (Deputy Head Teacher) or Ms Stacey Prosser (Wellbeing Lead)

Our Governor Leads are:

  • Mr Huw Coburn (Safeguarding Link Governor)
  • Ms Suzanne Absalom (Chair of Governors)

Any concerns regarding the Head Teacher should be reported to the Chair of Governors.

While we will endeavour to discuss any concerns with parents/guardians about their children, there may be exceptional circumstances when the school will discuss concerns with Social Care and/or the Police without parental knowledge (in accordance with Child Protection procedures). The school will, of course, always aim to maintain a positive relationship with all parents/guardians.

Any concerns raised will be treated sensitively but, as noted above, we cannot guarantee confidentiality in circumstances where we have to share information with colleagues within the school or in other agencies.

Our safeguarding policy and procedures have been developed in response to Welsh Government guidance on Keeping Learners Safe.  You can find a short version of this guidance below along with links to additional guidance from key organisations, and our Safeguarding Policy can be found in the Policies section of our website.
